GT Sports Venture names new girls sports leadership experience: “Marvella”

GT Sports Venture has a new name for its Girls Sports Leadership Experience. The 150-acre sports and learning complex will now be known as "Marvella – The Girls

Sports Leadership Experience." GT Sports Founder and President Glenn Tilley explains that "Title IX, the historic legislation that launched all that we now honor in women's sports, was born here in Indiana under then US Senator Birch Bayh. Through our research, we learned that Sen Bayh credited Title IX's inspiration to his wife, Marvella. We could think of no better way to honor the Bayh family, and all of Indiana and its dedication to female athletes than to name the first-of-itskind campus for girls’ sports Marvella. It is truly a marvel at how this has come full circle."

GT Sports contacted Marvella and Birch Bayh's son, Evan Bayh. The former Indiana Senator and Governor was thrilled to hear of the idea and gave his full blessing. According to Evan Bayh, "I could not be happier. What an honor for my family and all of Indiana. 52 years after they broke the barriers for female athlete's equality, the ground will be broken for a leadership and training center uniquely designed for girls and young women that will be the first in the nation of its kind, where it belongs, in Indiana.

As a result, plans for Marvell now include a special Title IX tribute museum within the 300,000-square-foot indoor space. The museum will reside in a special Marvella Welcome Center which will include a best-in-class multi-media theater, classrooms, outdoor viewing platforms, and a snack area.
